Description
Spring suspended bogie with torsionally weak H-shaped frame, compact brake unit and rigid wheelset guidance, advanced develeoped from UIC bogie Y 25.

Welded frame, assembeld of one box-type transverse girder and two - also box-type - longitudinal beams. Flange and web plates of the transverse girder continued in the interior of the longitudinal beam to achieve a uniform transmission of force without peaks and a very torsionally frame [2]. Spherical UIC centre pivot. Suspended side bearers. Longitudinal rigid wheelset guidance by cast steel axle guards. Two-stage coil spring suspension with Lenoir damping. 1435 mm gauge. 1800 mm wheelset base. Wheel diameter (new/wear) 920/840 mm, 22,5 t maximum axle load. Brake design: Integrated brake system with built-in brake cylinder, slack adjuster and endclosed joints (Knorr CFCB/
Compact Freight Car Brake unit). Single-sided push brake, Composite brake blocks, Bgu design. Optional: platform-operated handbrake, ground operated parking brake, weighing valve. Self weight (without additional brake equipment) aprox. 4150 kg.

Other versions (as far as already known):
a) ELH Y25Ls-C: as Y25Lsi-C, without integrated brake system, with conventional brake gear
b) ELH Y25Lsi(f) - FFB-K (customer specific design?, also with CFCB; used by Feldbinder).

History:
2006-09     ELH present at InnoTrans 2006 a new develeoped Bogie ELH 2-25-UK called "Optitrack".
Optitrack Bogie used many proven standard components, yet it is softer suspended and more
derailment safe than conventional standard bogies.

ELH 2-25-UK Optitrack, Photos: Bengt Dahlberg, InnoTrans 2006, edited by G-D/IB - ja

Optitrack-Drehgestell was developed for freight car, mainly used within the british rail system.
There track access charges are cheaper for rail cars with track friendly running gear.

"The wheelset of this bogie are not radially adjustable, its susspension accords to the y 25 principle. But it has a significant
softer spring characteristic. Thus, the vertical accelerations are reduced, which are rated as size of rolling contact fatigue in UK. ...

First oprational experience ... in UK showed, these traffic with 25,4 t axle load places higher demands to wheelset guidance.

Tolerances applied to y 25 bogie has to been reduced explicitly to avoid increased flange wear. This bogies achieve now comparable mileages (to wagon with TF 25 bogie same use) from 60 to 70 thousand miles between two profile corrections. ...

Due to UK requirements a wheel shaft weighs approx. 100 kg more than a UIC wheel shaft. ...

ELH points out that in the UK bogies are classified due to their track stressing since a couple of years - even there is no fixed definition. To each classification stage (Band) a factor finds application in calculating track fees. Bogies Y 25 and Y 33 are in Band 5, bogies type TF 25, LTF 13, AM 3 and Optitrack are in Band 6. This means 3 to 4 % less track fees." (cited from G-C 112, S. 15 - 20 [5], Tanslation G-D/IB-ja)
